Un napoletano al top del podismo mondiale. A Carlo Capalbo, già gran capo della Maratona di Praga e dirigente tra i più titolati a livello internazionale, è stata affidata la responsabilità della commissione maratona dal massimo organismo dell’atletica mondiale. “Sono molto felice di questo incarico che premia anni di lavoro e di passione impiegati nella organizzazione delle gare di corsa che hanno coinvolto migliaia di atleti. Continuerò con la stessa determinazione nel perseguire queste finalità in seno alla commissione per consentire un aumento del livello qualitativo delle manifestazioni, ha detto Capalbo.

Carlo Capalbo è nato a Napoli nel 1957, e dopo essersi laureato con lode in Giurisprudenza nel 1980 presso l’Università di Napoli, ha completato i corsi post-laurea presso l’Università di Economia, Torino, seguiti da corsi MBA all’University of California, Berkeley.

Nei primi anni novanta si trasferisce in Europa centrale e nel 1994 fonda la società Prague International Marathon, l’organizzatore di tre eventi di corsa a Praga – maratona di Praga, Prague Half Marathon e Gran Premio di Praga. Il punto di partenza per un nuovo progetto, il RunCzech, una serie di gare di lunga distanza organizzate in tutta la Repubblica Ceca. Oggi tutti i sette eventi RunCzech attirano oltre 85.000 corridori, assicurandosi il Race Gold Label IAAF Road che attesta gli standard di prim’ordine dell’organizzazione. Carlo Capalbo è stato insignito di laurea “honoris causae” presso l’Università Carlo di Praga per il suo contributo allo sviluppo dello sport nella Repubblica Ceca,  dell’European Athletics Stati Federazione Award per il suo contributo agli sport in Europa e di “Cavaliere dell’Ordine della stella d’Italia” da parte del Presidente della Repubblica italiana. Nell’aprile 2009 è diventato il primo membro italiano mai del Consiglio di AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races), dove è stato responsabile per lo sviluppo di lunga distanza in esecuzione in tutto il mondo e di marketing.

Carlo Capalbo was born in Italy on September 28, 1957. He graduated with distinction in 1980 from the University of Naples Law Faculty. He later obtained an MBA in Italy, Milano, and completed post graduate courses at the University of Economics, Turin, followed by MBA courses at the University of California, Berkeley.

Career

His professional career started in the IT industry with Olivetti Spa in Italy, where he was involved in international finance and the market development of new start-ups worldwide. In 1988 he joined the WordPerfect Corporation, holding a number of managerial positions, including country manager for Italy and regional manager for other European countries.

In the early nineties Carlo moved to Central Europe and in 1994 he founded the company Prague International Marathon spol s.r.o. (PIM) – the organizer of three running events in Prague – the Prague Marathon, Prague Half Marathon and Prague Grand Prix.

The Olomouc Half Marathon was the starting point for a new project, known as the RunCzech Running League, a series of long distance races organized throughout the Czech Republic. In September 2011, the Ústí nad Labem Half Marathon was organized, and another new race was created in June 2012, the České Budějovice Half Marathon. In 2013 the Karlovy Vary Half Marathon was added to the RunCzech Running League.

Today all of the seven RunCzech events attract over 85,000 runners and are awarded the Gold IAAF Road Race Label, no other company in the world has received more of these accolades, which attests to the first-rate standards of the organization.

Carlo Capalbo was awarded by a noumerous honours among them for example “honoris causae” degree by the Charles University in Prague for his contribution to the development of sport in the Czech Republic, European Athletics Member Federation Award for his contribution to the sports in Europe or „Cavaliere dell’Ordine della Stella d’Italia“ (Knigt of the Order of the Star of Italy) by the President of the Italian Republic.

In April 2009, Carlo became the first ever Italian member of the Board of AIMS (Association of International Marathons and Distance Races) where he was responsible for the development of long distance running worldwide and marketing.

Carlo is a keynote speaker at selected world running events and has consulted in the areas of management and marketing for some of the largest and most significant races in the world as well as for sport institutions.
